Scorpion is the name given to the arthropods, which form the Scorpiones team of the spider-class, usually live in hot and humid areas, their bodies are covered with a stiff kit, with a curved and upturned tail poison needle.

According to 2009 figures, scorpions have 1753 living species. 11 has collected 23 species in the genus in Turkey. The longest scorpion of the world is Heterometrus swammerdami with a height of 23 cm, and the second is Pandinus imperator species with a height of 20 cm. Although some scorpions in the terrarium live up to 8 years, their life in nature is shorter than this.

Scorpions, the existence and toxicity of which have been known since ancient times, do not carry disease factors. However, most of the time, in order to protect themselves, they can sting people and animals and cause poisoning and death. Especially in newborns and young children who are not sufficiently developed with immune system, scorpion sting (scorpionism) is a medical case that should not be neglected. Scorpion venom is frequently used as a research material in physiological and pharmacological studies due to the variety of active ingredients in its content.

Of the 1750 scorpion species in the world, only 50 are known to be poisonous and 20-25 are lethal. 8 and 19 scorpion species in Turkey are poisonous. It is worth noting that 2 of these 8 species are very poisonous and "deadly".
